What's new at Atmel

Atmel Launches $399 Starter Kit for ARM7-based Customizable Microcontrollers CAP7 Starter Kit
Atmel recently announced its AT91CAP7A-STK Starter Kit for the evaluation of its ARM7™-based CAP™ family of customizable microcontrollers. CAP7 customizable MCUs allow designers to migrate ARM7-plus-FPGA designs to a low-NRE, single-chip solution with approximately 30% lower unit costs, with eight times better performance, 98% less static power consumption, and 70% less active power consumption.

Atmel Targets Low Power Designs With World's First 1.8V 8-Megabit Serial Flash AT25DF081
Atmel recently announced the production availability of its new AT25DF081, the industry's first 8-megabit Serial Flash device capable of operating at 1.8-volts. With a low-voltage operating range of 1.65V to 1.95V, the AT25DF081 operates at the same voltage range as many current and upcoming sub-90nm ASICs and processors/controllers which allows system designers to finally create applications that can utilize a single supply voltage for all components in the system while also saving a significant amount of cost. Unlike devices that are screened to operate at lower voltages and subsequently de-rated, the AT25DF081 was designed specifically to operate at 1.8 volts, enabling the device to retain the same high levels of performance as its 3-volt counterpart.

eg3 Reader's Choice Award Survey
The product announcement "Atmel Introduces First Trusted Platform Module Development Kit for Securing Non-PC Embedded Applications" was selected for an editor's choice award by eg3. The eg3 Tech Choice awards are the newest and one of the largest "reader's choice" awards in the embedded and electronic design industries. The awards commend new products that take promising technologies and provide practical ways that design engineers and programmers can turn these technologies into real designs, today.
This key technology has now been placed in a survey where the reader's can vote on the best product announcement for each of the categories.

Application area in focus: New ATtiny167 LIN Controller with LIN2.1 protocol stack New ATtiny167
The latest member of the AVR® Automotive road map is the ATtiny167. It includes a dedicated Hardware LIN UART specially optimized for LIN Master and Slave applications. Most customers rely on automotive software companies to provide the LIN protocol stack. A close co-operation with Mentor Graphics has resulted in a fully validated LIN2.1 protocol stack that was available in July.
All Atmel Automotive FAEs will receive the LIN2.1 Target Package for ATtiny167 (LTP) to be used for demonstration purpose with STK600+STK600-SOIC and ATtiny167 samples.
